Slava Ukraini! In early 2022 I began a Telegram channel aggregating news from a number of sources daily on the war in Ukraine. Since June 2023 I have provided a daily draft for the Ukraine War Brief Podcast collecting news from over 60 sources daily, much of which forms the basis of the script. While the Podcast is on hiatus I will make this Draft available here both on my own Substack and The People’s Media for those who wish to keep up with events on a daily basis.

According to the Air Force, the invaders used four Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles.
The Kyiv City Military Administration reports that air defence forces and equipment were operating in the capital and on the outskirts of the city.
Russian missiles were launched at the Kyiv region from the Voronezh region of the Russian Federation. As a result of the Ukrainian air defence’s efforts, two ballistic missiles were shot down.
On Tuesday morning, the Colonel GSh Telegram channel published a photo of a fragment of an allegedly DPRK-made Hwasong-11 (KN-23) ballistic missile, which was found at the site of the enemy missile crash. It is noted that these missiles are made of low-quality components.
It is worth noting that this is the second Russian strike by North Korean ballistic missiles against the Kyiv region in recent times.

Russia's fourth dam bursts in two weeks
A dam burst in the town of Dalnerechensk in the far east of Russia overnight on Aug. 6, regional authorities told state-owned TASS news agency. This marks the fourth such case in Russia in two weeks. The Kyiv Independent reports.
On July 26, a dam broke at the Kialimskoye water reservoir in the Karabash urban district of Russia's Chelyabinsk region.
In the Segezha district of Karelia, a dam on the White Sea-Baltic Canal burst on July 29, killing one person. The Khonkholoy dam in Buryatia broke due to floods on Aug. 4, causing water to wash away several bridges.
In April 2024, the Russian city of Orengurg was flooded after several rivers, including the Ural, burst from their banks, and the Orsk Dam collapsed. The water levels in the city rose 2 meters above the critical level, flooding 11,700 homes, according to the local authorities.
The victims of the Orenburg flood reported to Agence France-Presse the lack of response from the government and local authorities.
"No one is helping us," one resident said, according to the agency. "No Emergency Situations Ministry, no one has ever come."
Mixed forces allegedly breach into Russian Kursk Oblast from Ukrainian side
Russian sources reported that Ukrainian military forces allegedly breached the Russian border in Kursk Oblast overnight, according to local authorities. Euromaidan Press reported.
Allegedly the group attempting to breach the Russian border in Kursk Oblast reportedly consisted of members from the Russian Volunteer Corps, Ukraine’s 22nd Separate Mechanized Brigade, and territorial defense units and was allegedly orchestrated by Kyrylo Budanov, Ukraine’s head of military intelligence.
Russian Telegram channels claim that Ukrainian armored vehicles crossed the border, but were stopped by Russian forces.
The operation began at 3 a.m., with Ukrainian forces allegedly using artillery, tanks, and loitering munition to support their advance. The Ukrainian troops reportedly used vehicles marked with triangular insignia.
According to unofficial sources, two Ukrainian tanks were destroyed, and Russian forces are reportedly conducting strikes in Ukraine’s Sumy Oblast in response.
Editorial Note - The vehicles shown in the aerial photos below appear to be HUMVEEs not armoured vehicles or tanks. The unit designator (the white triangle) is for a completely different unit of the AFU and nothing in the photograph suggests this was taken in Russia.
Russia lost a large amount of aviation ordnance during the Morozovsk air base strike.
Ukraine conducted a strike on the Russian Morozovsk military airfield in the Rostov region on the night of August 3.

Iran asks Russia for air defences to prepare for potential war with Israel
Iran has requested advanced air defence systems from Russia as it prepares for a possible war with Israel. The New York Times reports.
Former Russia Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu arrived in Tehran on Monday to meet with senior officials as Iran prepared to retaliate against Israel for the killing of Hamas’s political leader on Iranian soil last week, a provocation that has threatened to touch off a regional war.
Shoigu’s visit underscores the close alliance between Iran and Russia, which has strengthened since the war in Ukraine started in 2022. Iran has provided Russia with military drones, and the two countries recently finalised an agreement to expand their military and intelligence cooperation.
Iranian media reported that Iran has requested advanced air-defence systems from Russia as it prepares for a possible war with Israel.
Two Iranian officials familiar with the war planning, one a member of the Revolutionary Guards Corps, confirmed that Iran has made the request and said Russia has started delivering advanced radars and air-defence equipment. The officials spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to discuss the aid publicly.
“We are ready for full cooperation with Iran on regional issues,” Mr. Shoigu said, according to Iran’s state media.
General Bagheri told Mr. Shoigu that the relationship between their nations was “deep, long term and strategic,” and would only expand under Iran’s new government, according to Iranian media reports.
Even though Russia also has economic and cultural ties to Israel — a large number of Russian Jews live in Israel — analysts say that Russia can’t afford to turn down Iran’s requests for help, because it relies heavily on Iranian drones in Ukraine.
“If Iranians are asking Russians for air defence, they are cashing in their chips,” said Colin P. Clarke, director of policy and research at the Soufan Group, an intelligence and security consultancy. “The question is how do Russians assuage Tehran without ruining their relationship with Israel.”
Grumpy Here - While I have no reason to doubt the claims in the New York Times article it is clear that Russia would be hard pressed to offer air defence systems to anyone at the moment due to the continuous loss of such systems in the war with Ukraine. Intelligence sources suggested recently that Russia had to return such equipment deployed overseas in order to send it to Crimea where repeated attacks have left them virtually defenceless.
Additionally such protection is of questionable value as Ukraine has had no problem repeatedly destroying such equipment and there is no doubt Israel’s offensive capabilities would be at least equal, if not more advanced than Ukraines.
Council of EU approves $4.6 billion under Ukraine Facility
The Council of the EU on Aug. 6 gave its written approval to disburse 4.2 billion euros ($4.6 billion) to Kyiv as the first regular payment under the Ukraine Facility.
The four-year Ukraine Facility allocates 33 billion euros ($36 billion) in loans and 17 billion euros ($18 billion) in grants, conditional on the Ukrainian government's carrying out certain reforms.
"With the completion of the written procedure, the Council has adopted an implementing decision today," the Hungarian presidency of the Council said on X.
"This decision supports Ukraine's macro-financial stability and the functioning of its public administration."
The EU approved the Ukraine Facility in February, and the EU Council approved the framework agreement in mid-May, setting out the Ukrainian government's tasks for recovery, reconstruction, and modernization.
"Grateful to the (Council of the EU) for authorizing the first regular payment of 4.2 billion euros under the Ukraine Facility," Ukraine's Finance Minister Serhii Marchenko said. "Thus, the (EU) budget support in 2024 will reach over 12 billion euros."
Kyiv already received several pre-financing "bridge" tranches under the assistance plan earlier this year.
