Trump and Putin's Kursk Fantasy
Or how a fairytale becomes part of negotiations

Trump allegedly recently spoke to Putin, one can never tell for sure as Trump lies incessantly and Russian’s lies as a way of life.

Trump claims thousands of Ukrainian soldiers are surrounded in Kursk and that he begged Putin out of the goodness of his heart to spare their lives.
Putin decided to play along with this fantasy and now says he will magnanimously spare the lives of these Ukrainian soldiers, if they surrender immediately.
None of this is true, no one in the US military or intelligence apparatus told Trump that was the case because it clearly isn’t.
Ukrainian forces are not surrounded in Kursk, although they did suffer a serious setback.
Over the past week they were forced to make a tactical withdrawal from the Sudzha area reportedly because of a botched unit change over and the fact that the US had withdrawn intelligence sharing which Russia took advantage of to move around a large number of troops and launch an offensive.
I have edited together a video based on the approximate position of Russian and Ukrainian forces from Mar 8 to 14 using maps published by Map UkrDaily. One can clearly see the initial assault, the tactical withdrawal of Ukrainian troops to more defensible positions and a relative stabilization of the line over the past several days.
