Three years ago today the world changed. Russian jets streaked into Ukrainian airspace, Huge Russian armoured columns rolled across the Ukrainian border and from illegally occupied Donbas and Crimea. Putin was gambling that the West was soft and would not respond, and in a way he was right, and continues to be. We in the west, led by a dithering Biden administration, did not respond strongly enough.
Europe failed to unite, some because they were corrupt and bought off by the Russians, others because they did not sense the urgency or were too wrapped up in their own petty issues. Individual countries tried to step up but never sufficiently.
Then newly elected President Donald Trump revealed his intention to stab Ukraine in the back, his administration shamelessly allying with Russia, adopting Russian propaganda points and attempting to extort 500 billion in precious metals from Ukraine while offering nothing in return.
But through it all Ukraine stands. Three years later Russia still only holds 20% of the country for which Russia has suffered 868,000 casualties. Ukraine stands not only because they had Volodymyr Zelenskyy as President - the perfect war time leader, but because of the bravery, stubbornness and national pride of not only the men fighting on the front line, but every day Ukrainians as well.
Ukrainians who have endured three years of bombing, loss, cruelty and war crimes, yet remain unbowed. People like the soldier above, who after three years of everything he has endured, can still find time to smile.
Today a solemn event occurred in Kyiv with leaders from all over the free world marking this momentous occasion, shamelessly, no one from the US administration showed up
We in the west must find the fortitude to unite against the new American/Russian axis and finish this fight with our friends and allies in Ukraine.
On to victory - Slava Ukraini / Heroyam Slava!
